Who is killing Chinatown? Mega landlord Jonathan Chu is profiting off of residents, workers and small businesses in Chinatown. When Jonathan Chu was board chair of the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), he negotiated a $35 million deal with the City in exchange for supporting a new megajail in Chinatown. He also evicted Jing Fong banquet hall, the largest dim sum hall on the East Coast and a real community center for Chinatown, costing hundreds of union jobs and displacing workers. Chu replaced Jing Fong with a showroom for Vitra, a luxury Swiss furniture store that gives back nothing to the community!
We demand Jonathan Chu and MOCA return the $35 million to the community and reopen Jing Fong at its original location.
